Another Fallout game could be coming "sooner rather than later", following the success of the TV adaptation.
This is according to Jez Corden from Windows Central, who says that Xbox is "currently formulating plans" on how to ship a new Fallout game sooner than expected. It's unclear if this would take the form of Fallout 5 or a spin-off developed by another studio entirely, especially as Bethesda has both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 to work on first.
These comments, initially spotted by Insider Gaming, were made on the most recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast.
"[Xbox is] currently formulating plans on how to get the next Fallout here for us sooner rather than later," says Corden.
He continues, giving his own thoughts on when we can expect the next Fallout game. "We constantly talk about will we even see Fallout this decade, and the answer is I think we will".
While this is only a rumour at this stage, it's believable that Xbox would want a new Fallout game to capitalise on the success of the show. Right now, the series has found itself in the odd place of only having an almost nine-year-old entry, Fallout 4, to offer new fans. Worse yet, we don't appear to be close at all to Fallout 5's launch, as Todd Howard has recently reaffirmed Bethesda's commitment to ship The Elder Scrolls 6 before anything else.
Starfield is still being supported with updates and has DLC on the way too . It's hard to see us getting another Fallout game before 2030 if Xbox can't find another studio to work on the series.
With this in mind, it's likely that Xbox's plans would involve getting another studio to develop a Fallout game prior to Fallout 5's launch. The fan favourite choice of studio to take on this project would be Obsidian, having previously shipped Fallout: New Vegas back in 2010. Both Obsidian and Bethesda are owned by Xbox now, so it's easy to see why fans are getting their hopes up. It's just worth keeping in mind that Obsidian has its own RPGs to work
