The Launch Trailer for the War Within Beta features Xal'atath and several other characters who will play a major role in the upcoming expansion. We go over the meanings behind Xal'atath's words.
When Xal'atath says she's been watching the people of Azeroth for a long time, she's not kidding. As a dagger, Xal'atath has played a role in some of Azeroth's darkest history — manipulating her wielders before discarding them when they're no longer useful. A Shadowy Figure believed to be Xal'atath has been regularly showing up in Season of Discovery over on Classic — offering players various powerful rewards in exchange for favors that always seem harmless enough on the surface. And, if the flavor text on a Trading Post item is to be believed, Xal'atath gifted a staff from the Void Lord Dimensius the All-Devouring back during the height of the Black Empire.
Xal'atath is not the only Void-aligned being that's shown an interest in watching us. Shadreen, the Void Ethereal, has been watching us for an unknown purpose for some time — she is even believed to be behind the mysterious coins showing up in our Adventure Journals. Could it be that Shadreen is an agent of Xal'atath?
When Khadgar sent Alleria to chase after the Harbinger, Alleria mentioned that she has been keeping her distance from her family — Turalyon and Arator. Fighting the whispers from the Void is a constant battle, one that Alleria believes she must face alone. Most who deal with the Void inevitably fall to its corruption. Alleria worries that she may hurt her family — and her choice to embrace the Void has driven a clear wedge between herself and Turalyon, who follows the Light. We have also seen that Alleria does not feel like she can fully confide even in her oldest friends like Khadgar, who can't possibly understand her choices.
