2K has released its first Ringside Report, a video series that aims to deep dive into the feature, mechanics, and more behind the wrestling game that will release on March 11, 2022, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The video is a big one for fans, as it features more than nine minutes of gameplay from the upcoming wrestling title. Check out the full gameplay footage below in the Ringside Report:
Alongside the bits of gameplay, the Ringside Report also features commentary from some members of the development team. Creative director Lynell Jinks, art producer Christina Diem Pham, principal designer Jason Vandiver, senior producer Jonathan Rivera, and senior designer Derek Donahue all speak about the major improvements made to the game.
Perhaps most importantly, the first feature discussed is the fact that Visual Concepts has redesigned the engine for WWE 2K22 from the ground up. This includes brand-new “dynamic animations,” which will have the digital WWE Superstars acting more like their real-life counterparts, down to the exact same taunting that they do in the ring. An overhauled lighting system has also been implemented, which allows for everything in the game to look even more realistic.
Also new to are upgraded physics, which Visual Concepts says will allow for more “unexpected moments” to happen throughout a match. This was shown off a bit in the video in the form of Kendo sticks snapping after hitting someone, tables breaking dynamically, and wrestlers reacting differently to each hit.
