Batman Returns star Michelle Pfeiffer reveals whether she would consider returning as Catwoman. Michael Keaton made movie history as the first blockbuster Caped Crusader in 1989’s Batman. For the sequel, director Tim Burton brought on Danny DeVito as Batman’s nemesis The Penguin, alongside Pfeiffer as the infamous Catwoman.
Burton’s Batman Returns of course remains a somewhat divisive work among fans of DC comic book films. But while it’s a matter of some debate whether Burton’s over-the-top movie really captures the spirit of Batman, most seem to agree that Pfeiffer’s portrayal of Catwoman is one of the film’s strongest elements. And whether all fans like it or not, the Burton era of Batman films is currently undergoing somewhat of a nostalgic revival, with Keaton set to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in the upcoming DCEU film The Flash.

Keaton’s previously-unthinkable return as Batman naturally has fans wondering whether Pfeiffer herself would ever consider returning to the big screen as Selina Kyle. Asked about just this during a recent profile in THR, Pfeiffer indeed left the door open on the possibility she could again pick up Catwoman’s whip. She said, “It would depend on the context but, yeah, I’d consider it.”
The character of Catwoman has of course enjoyed a rich cinematic life outside of Pfeiffer’s portrayal in Batman Returns. There was in 2004 the standalone movie Catwoman, starring Halle Berry as Patience Phillips, a character loosely based on the comic books. Then in 2012, the role of Selina Kyle was taken on by Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. And of course Catwoman returned again in 2022’s The
