Stranger Things season 4, volume 1 keeps on using the name Ruth and it feels too intentional to just be a coincidence. The first seven episodes of season 4 break new ground in the series by revealing large pieces of series lore that have until now remained hidden in the shadows. With secrets still to be revealed in Stranger Thingsseason 4, volume 2, it's possible that the reasoning behind the reoccurrence of «Ruth» will also become apparent.
After chasing down Vecna leads to the name Victor Creel, Nancy and Robin go undercover in order to get an interview with the alleged murderer. Robin goes undercover as Rose, while Nancy uses the name Ruth. On the other side of the country, Eleven has been rescued from a potential stint in a juvenile detention center by Dr. Sam Owens who explains to her that he believes he can help her get her powers back. He takes her to Ruth, Nevada where a decommissioned ICBM silo has been turned into a facility targeted at helping Eleven save the world. It's revealed that music can save a person from Vecna's clutches, and Max's favorite Kate Bush song just happens to be Running Up That Hill (or R.U.T.H.).

Within a few episodes, «Ruth» gets name-dropped three times. Even if the song title is coincidental, it's suspicious that the writers would include the name twice within the same season, especially in such close proximity to each other. Steve even repeats the name after Nancy says it, with the two sharing a look over the moment. The writers don't just use the name a few times, they call it out. Ruth feels more significant than a mere coincidence.
