It has been announced that Warner Bros. has canceled the upcoming DCEU project Batgirl, citing several reasons for the decision. Batgirl was set for a late-2022 release from directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The film was set to star Leslie Grace in the titular role and include a supporting cast of Michael Keaton returning to his role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. With Keaton also returning to the role of Batman ahead of his apparent appearance in 2023's The Flash, it seemed WB had the next phase of the DCEU mapped out.

At the time, many thought Warner Bros. simply wanted to focus on their bigger releases in 2022, such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. Unfortunately, it is now clear that it was more likely because the studio did not intend to release the film at all, citing several different reasons.
