Regé-Jean Page and Tom Hardy are among the frontrunners for Bond 26’s James Bond, but the younger star would be a better fit for 007 than the more-established screen veteran. Although a lot of actors may dream about someday playing 007, the role of James Bond can be both a blessing and a curse. For some actors, the part comes to define their entire screen careers, while others find themselves intentionally playing against type (like Daniel Craig in Knives Out or Pierce Brosnan in The Matador) to avoid this fate.
However, this has not stopped many of 2022’s biggest stars from competing to gain the role. Now that Craig’s tenure as Bond has come to a long-awaited end, stars as varied as Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Henry Golding have all been rumored to be attached to the part. However, Regé-Jean Page’s James Bond chances are higher than most of his competitors according to booksellers, with only Tom Hardy equalling the rising star’s odds.

The Bridgerton star and the Mad Max actor are the current favorites for the role, but the younger actor would be a better fit for Bond 26 for numerous reasons. Page’s James Bond would be a younger version of 007, something the franchise hasn’t had for some time now, and the actor’s schedule isn’t as packed with blockbuster commitments. Not only that, but Page is not as well-known as Hardy and, while this might make him a harder sell at first, it means the actor won’t bring any baggage to the role either. Tom Hardy is already extremely famous and familiar to movie fans, meaning the Venom/Mad Max franchise star could have a hard time reinventing himself as James Bond.
