Daniel Craig was reportedly first offered the cameo role of Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - however, the actor turning this role down could lead to a much bigger and better future MCU role. The role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic went to John Krasinski, a popular fan cast for that role in the MCU. However, it was revealed shortly after the film's release that Daniel Craig, longtime James Bond actor, was offered the cameo before Krasinski accepted.
This could likely be because Marvel Studios wants Krasinski as their Reed Richards full time, beginning with the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Therefore, it makes sense for Marvel to want to differentiate between the MCU's Mister Fantastic of Earth-616 and Earth-838. With it stated that Craig turned down the role, though, the door is open for him to return to the MCU in the future, only in a bigger, more substantial role.

Doctor Strange 2 began shooting in November 2020 and ran throughout 2021 due to extensive reshoots. This meant that the film was largely shot throughout COVID, with lots of uncertainty surrounding the project, which meant that the reshoots were required. According to reports, Craig turned down the role of Mister Fantastic because of this, as an increase in COVID cases made him rethink travelling and risking both his family's safety and his own. Due to this, Daniel Craig left Reed Richards to Krasinski. However, given how Craig's refusal in this report seems to be solely based on health concerns, this could be seen to show a potential willingness to play a part in the MCU in the future — which may open the floor for a larger role, given the actor
