The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series won't be able to receive a nomination for the 2022 Emmys. The Star Wars series follows its titular Jedi with Ewan McGregor reprising the role as he navigates life in the galaxy ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. Hayden Christensen will also be returning to play Darth Vader as the infamous villain sends out his ruthless team of Inquisitors after Obi-Wan and other runaway Jedi who survived the deadly Order 66.
The limited series has already generated incredible hype and is expected to be one of Star Wars' best thus far. However, it will still be unable to receive a nomination for the 2022 Emmys. Variety has shared that Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn't fall in the eligibility window, which stretches from June 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022. With the series failing to wrap up before the ultimate June 16 voting deadline and highly unlikely to show the 20,000 voters the unseen episodes for fear of leaks and spoilers, the Star Wars series will have to sit out this year's awards. Lucasfilm still has The Book of Boba Fett to hinge on for Emmy consideration, but the exiled Jedi's story will have to sit on the sidelines of the race.
