After the release of a trailer and character posters for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Wizarding World enthusiasts have been left wondering why Nagini isn't in the next film–and how she might come back. Nagini is unique in that she's one of the only characters from the Fantastic Beasts franchise to also be featured in the Harry Potter movies. Not only was her introduction in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald memorable, but it piqued audiences' collective interest to see how a kind young woman would eventually become one of the fiercest villains in Harry Potter lore. Despite that, her absence likely has its logical reasons and may even lead to Nagini having a larger role in future Fantastic Beasts films.
The Crimes of Grindelwald introduced the human form of the future snake friend and horcrux of Voldemort, Nagini (Claudia Kim), as a young maledictus not yet succumbed to her blood curse. At the end of the film, she saw her companion, Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), join Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) while she narrowly escaped death and joined Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) on their journey back to Hogwarts. Though fans of the franchise know her story is far from over, promotion for The Secrets of Dumbledore indicates Nagini won’t be in the next Fantastic Beasts film. So the question remains as to why she was left out and whether or not she’ll be seen in future installments.
