Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore has been approved for theatrical release in China. The first film in the series, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, earned a $86M total in China in 2016, and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald earned $57.3M. David Yates has directed all three films in the Fantastic Beasts series, along with four films in the main Harry Potter franchise.
According to Deadline, in spite of a heavily reduced number of Hollywood studio films being cleared for release in the Chinese market throughout 2021, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be Warner Bros.' third film to obtain China release in 2022 thus far. The two other WB films approved for a China release include The Matrix Resurrections this past January, and The Batman, which is being released on March 18th. Fantastic Beasts 3 begins its international release schedule on April 6, and North America on April 15, but a specific China release date has not yet been set. The official WB Weibo account posted today that “magic is coming” and suggested fans “stay tuned.”
