After years of speculation and anticipation, Avalanche Software has finally pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy fully. At Sony’s latest State of Play event, dedicated specifically to the open-world multi-platform Harry Potter title, roughly 22 minutes of PS5 footage was showcased. While it’s going to be impossible for the studio to separate itself from the transphobic views that the franchise’s original creator holds, what was on display suggests that Avalanche caresabout the IP and its fan base.
Thanks to the promise that players will be able to explore a diverse array of classes, activities, and locales, Hogwarts Legacyis shaping up to be the virtual realization of the Harry Potter universe that fans have been dreaming about for years. What was particularly surprising about the State of Play trailer though, was just how many creatures from the franchise’s bestiary showed up on screen. For several reasons, it looks as though Avalanche is going to fully utilize Harry Potter’s eclectic array of Fantastic Beasts to the game’s benefit.
The Early Harry Potter Games Do A Great Job of Making Hogwarts Feel Magical
When Hogwarts Legacy launches this holiday season, players will be able to immerse themselves in a Harry Potter RPG that appears to be heavily channeling Rockstar Games’ Bully. Considering this and the IP that’s being adapted, it’s perhaps unsurprising that attending magic-themed classes will be a large part of the experience. During the recent State of Play presentation, it was briefly mentioned that a «Beasts» class option will be available to the player's witch or wizard character.
