A Chinese release date for Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore has been confirmed. The third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which is an exploration into the past of the wizarding world from the Harry Potter films, will see many of the stars from the first two films returning. Previous reports had noted that Fantastic Beasts 3would get a China release, although the number of Hollywood films being cleared for release in the country is being reduced. This may be partially down to the censorship of foreign entertainment that China has been known to do, with older releases still being edited down for domestic viewing. Within the last month alone, reports of the censorship of Friends and Fight Club in China have surfaced as examples of this.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fantastic Beasts 3 will be released in Chinese theatres on April 8. This is the same date as the UK — although China will have the film before North America, which gets it April 15. The report also highlights how successful the franchise had previously proven to be in China, with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them earning $86 million, while Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald took $57.3 million. While love for Harry Potter seems universal, China's connection to the franchise is especially apparent from the launch of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction in Beijing.
