The Eternals is the newest team of superheroes to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with the future of the Avengers unknown, which Eternals could be part of a new Avengers team? The MCU is beginning a new era with its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which is not only continuing the stories of some well-established heroes but it's also introducing new characters, events, and concepts to this already extensive universe. Phase 4 has already introduced a new team of superheroes in Eternals, and they have a lot of potential to join or form new teams in the near future.
Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals introduces the title team, who were created by the Celestial Arishem and sent to Earth to get rid of the Deviants, their evil counterparts. Once the Deviants were defeated, the Eternals stayed on Earth to help humanity progress, but they weren’t allowed to interfere in any of their conflicts. This eventually led the team to split up, and they reunited many, many years later after the death of their leader, Ajak (Salma Hayek), the return of the Deviants, and an apocalyptic event called “The Emergence” approached. As if that wasn’t enough, the Eternals learned the truth about their origin and mission, which was to make the Emergence happen by helping humanity so it could reach the requirements for the birth of the Celestial Tiamut.
