In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can find and catch a Cranidos, a rare ancient Pokémon that roamed the Hisui region even long before the event of the game began. Many players know Cranidos and its evolved form, Rampardos, as the Rock-type fossilized Pokémon that were originally introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Although Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place long before the events of either previous games, it's still not quite far back enough to be in the time of history when Cranidos roamed the Hisui region freely.
One of the features of Pokémon games that take place in more modern times is the technological advancements that allow their scientists to revive fossil Pokémon. However, much like the natural habitat of Magnemite and Magneton in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, no such technological advancements can be found in the Hisui region at this time. Instead, players will have to rely upon Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends: Arceus to bring Cranidos forward in time to the presence of trainers.

Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are the phenomenons where Pokémon are brought through time and space to distinct locations across the Hisui region, be it from the past, the future, or another region altogether. For example, Johtoian Sneasel can appear in the Hisui region through the Space-Time Distortions, though they aren't natively in the Hisui region during Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Conversely, fossils that are partially excavated in the Coronet Highlands in Pokémon Legends: Arceus show that Cranidos and Rampardos are natives of the land, and the Space-Time Distortions bring them forward in time.
