HoYoverse first teased the Genshin Impact 3.0 update in early July, before Version 2.8 was even released, confirming that it will be the game's next major patch. Although the developers have not given any concrete information regarding the release date, Genshin Impact's six-week update cycle allows players to predict the day with a considerable level of confidence.
Version 2.8 introduced one new character, a decent amount of quests, and an assortment of items, but Version 3.0 promises to be far more momentous. To start, Genshin Impact 3.0 will introduce the Sumeru region, an entirely new rainforest- and desert-heavy area that even the manga gives little information about. However, it is clear that the area is inspired by South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, and it is home to the prestigious Sumeru Akademiya academy, which is referenced multiple times in the game's lore.

The new questlines have been kept under wraps, but a certain teaser insinuates that they will feature the Fatui Harbingers, the powerful and mysterious leaders of the villainous Fatui faction. The manga-only character Collei also made an appearance in the trailer and leaks have suggested she'll be available near the start of Version 3.0, alongside fellow newcomers Tighnari and Dori. Both Genshin Impact 3.0's Collei and Tighnari are confirmed to use bows, while Dori is an Electro-based claymore user.
