Host Geoff Keighley says more than 30 games will appear during Gamescom Opening Night Live, including a Sonic Frontiers world premiere.
With the not-E3 period well and truly behind us, the next prominent event for new game announcements is Gamescom. Specifically, Gamescom Opening Night Live, hosted by Summer Game Fest/The Game Awards organiser Geoff Keighley.
Much like Summer Game Fest’s opening showcase, it will run for approximately two hours and feature a mix of already announced games and brand new reveals.
Keighley has promised that more than 30 games will be showcased during the event, which is roughly the same amount as during Summer Game Fest.
With Gamescom a public event once again, you can watch the show in person in Cologne, Germany, but it’s being livestreamed so you can just as easily watch the whole thing at home.
Keighley is obviously keeping mum about which games will be featured, but we do know of at least one: Sonic Frontiers.
Bizarrely, neither the official Sega nor Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter accounts have acknowledged this, at the time of writing. It’s especially weird as Keighley is touting it as a world premiere, confirming that we will be getting a new trailer and updates on the game.
A release date announcement is a safe assumption since Sonic Frontiers is still scheduled for this winter but lacks an exact date.
Sega did share more information and gameplay footage throughout June, but it’s left fans as divided as ever. There were even calls on social media for Sega to delay the game until 2023, because of how it looked.
We could also see new trailers for Microsoft games as the company is one of the few major publishers to be attending this year’s Gamescom.
It will be on the show floor with hands-on demos
