James Marsden is confirmed to return for Westworld season 4 after being absent for season 3. Marsden’s amiable cowboy character Teddy Flood was one of the original hosts on Westworld season 1. But his arc proved tragic after he became caught up in his lover and fellow host Dolores’ campaign of blood-soaked vengeance in season 2.
Indeed Teddy’s Westworld arc seemed to have come to an end entirely when his body was discovered by a Delos security team at the end of season 2. Season 3 then appeared to confirm the permanent end of Teddy as a character, as he was not part of the action. Of course Westworld season 3 did venture far beyond the confines of the theme park, as it raised the stakes on everything that was revealed throughout the first two seasons, making Teddy’s former role in the action seem rather insignificant.

But now it seems that Teddy’s departure from Westworld may not have been so permanent, and the character maybe not so insignificant. As reported by TVLine, Marsden’s return for Westworld season 4 was confirmed at a panel at this weekend’s ATX Festival. No further details were given out about Marsden’s specific season 4 role.
It’s important to note of course that Marsden’s return for Westworld season 4 does not guarantee the return of his character Teddy. Indeed, Evan Rachel Wood’s original character of Dolores appears to have been left far behind, but Wood herself remains a cast member on the show. Wood in fact is believed to be playing a completely new character in Westworld season 4. So there’s at least some chance that Marsden himself will be back in season 4 playing a character other than Teddy.
