Here's the eerie ending of Criminal Minds «Heathridge Manor» explained — and whether or not the Devil actually turned up. While Criminal Minds may have been a procedural in a similiar vein to the likes of CSI, it often blurred the line between being a thriller and horror show. It followed the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (AKA the BAU), who traveled all over the country to track down «unsub» killers. The murderers in question often employed unique methods and while the BAU and many of these unsubs were relatively grounded in how they were depicted, others often felt like they came from a horror movie.
The likes of cannibalistic killer «Lucky» (Jamie Kennedy), Brad Dourif's Adam Rain — who turned victims into marionettes — or Mark Hamill's The Replicator all could have featured in their own solo movie. Matthew Gray Gubler — who played resident BAU genius Spencer Reid — is also a huge horror fan in reality, so whenever he got a chance to direct an episode, they often took on a horror theme. One of the most memorable was season 9's «Blood Relations,» which featured guest appearances from genre royalty Tobin Bell and Adrienne Barbeau and a borderline supernatural killer who was one of the few to evade the team completely.

Another Gubler-helmed outing was Criminal Minds season 7 episode «Heathridge Manor.» This saw the unit chasing down a killer who kidnaps young women, believing them to be the wives of the Devil. The killer is James Heathstone (Kyle Gallner), who first drowns his victims to see if they survive, and if they do, this «confirms» they are witches.
