Regé-Jean Page has debunked rumors that he will be returning as Simon in Bridgerton season 3. Immediately after arriving on Netflix during Christmas 2020, Bridgerton proved a mega-hit, and its recent season 2 continued this trend by breaking its own Netflix viewership record. In Bridgerton season 1, Page played Simon Basset, The Duke of Hastings and central love interest of Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne Bridgerton. After what started as a fake relationship to help Daphne secure a husband, the pair became embroiled in a passionate but tumultuous love affair, eventually marrying and having a baby son.
Page turned out to be one ofBridgerton's breakout stars, so it was a shock to many when it was announced that the actor would not be returning for season 2. While some reports indicated that Page's exit from the hit series was due to creative differences, Bridgerton creator Shona Rhimes explained that the actor simply believed Simon's story to be a one-season arc, and didn't merit his return. Bridgerton season 2 continued to follow Julia Quinn's original novels, moving away from Daphne and Simon to instead focus on the family's eldest sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and his relationship with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). While Page's Simon didn't appear, Dynevor returned to help Anthony with his own romantic troubles. Following Bridgerton season 2's release, however, rumors have been circulating that Page will indeed come back for season 3.
