A new image from the A League of Their Own television show gives audiences their first look at Rosie O'Donnell's return to the franchise. The actor originally starred as the Rockford Peaches' third baseman Doris Murphy in the classic 1992 sports film A League of Their Own. Directed by Penny Marshall, the movie told the story of the rise of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) during World War II when Major League Baseball was negatively affected by popular players joining the war effort. Following the popularity of the film, a sitcom was rushed to air in 1993 to expand the story. However, the series only lasted six episodes.
Now, the popular film is slated to get another show on Amazon Prime Video featuring Abbi Jacobson, Chanté Adams, and D'Arcy Carden in new roles. According to Carden, the A League of Their Own reboot series will be a re-imagining of the original film, delving deeper into the characters' storylines and exploring themes of racism and sexuality while maintaining the film's tone. In August 2021, O'Donnell was announced as being cast in the series as Vi, the owner of a local gay bar.
