One aspect of Chaos Gate that goes somewhat under explained, however, is the Stratagem system. Stratagems, like the tabletop game, are powerful abilities that can be activated for a limited time to give you an advantage in combat. In Chaos Gate, these can literally bend the game to your will, and turn the un-winnable, into a cakewalk.
Stratagems are powerful one-use abilities you can equip and bring into missions. Stratagems can do just about anything, whether that be granting extra AP to characters, to reviving the entire squad when they are downed. Some can even deal damage to the enemy, or hinder them, making difficult encounters more manageable.
What Stratagems you bring into any given mission can drastically change how you engage with that mission. For example, when you need to destroy a specific target, like a Bloomspawn, bringing Gate Of Infinity can turn the tide. This allows you to teleport - for free - your entire squad to any visible location on the map. You can instantly destroy the Bloomspawn before the enemy can react, and win right then and there.
