PC games giant Valve has introduced a new game recording feature to Steam.
In a post on its website, the company detailed this functionality, which will allow players to record and replay gameplay, as well as clip and share this to other people. This tech not only works on PC but also the company's Steam Deck hardware.
The functionality – dubbed Background Recording mode – will constantly record gameplay to a nominated hard drive. This can be turned on and off as users see fit.
Then there's the Steam Timeline, which shows up when players are recording and lets users know when events happen. Valve adds that receiving achievements and screenshots will automatically introduce markers to the timeline.
In its blog post, Valve said that this has been engineered to impact performance as little as possible, though this doesn't appear to include Intel GPUs so bad luck if you own one of those apparently.
"Steam Game Recording has been designed with the goal of taking as little computer resources away from the game you are playing as possible," the company wrote.
"It takes advantage of Nvidia and AMD graphics cards to remove most of the performance cost of creating video recordings. When run on systems without those graphics cards, the systems CPU is used to create video recordings which may cause a noticeable performance impact on those systems."
Background recording was launched in beta back in June.
