It has been announced that Until Dawn, the choice-driven horror title by Supermassive Games that first launched way back in 2015, currently has a movie adaptation in the works, and will be helmed by Shazam! director David F. Sandberg.
First shared by the Hollywood Reporter, Sanberg has signed a deal to direct the Until Dawn movie, which will be made by both American film production company Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions. Renowned horror writer Gary Dauberman will also be working on the project, the screenwriter behind franchises such as IT, Annabelle, and The Nun. Sandberg and Dauberman also recently worked together on the horror title Annabelle: Creation.
Unfortunately, that's all we know about the project right now. We can assume it will have a similar plot, as the game itself is basically an interactive movie, though whether the original cast will return is still a mystery. Those of you who have played Until Dawn will know that Rami Malek plays a character called Josh, but his stock has risen considerably since then, having appeared in movies such as No Time To Die, Oppenheimer, and Bohemian Rhapsody.
It will also be interesting to see how Sandberg and his team approach the game's branching narrative. Until Dawn's story very heavily relies upon player choice and takes into account your performance during certain action scenes, outright killing characters who you mess up with. All the big moments in the game will likely be there, but it makes you wonder what will happen to some of the more overlooked characters.
We unfortunately don't have a release window to look forward to either, but we can add Until Dawn to the ever-growing list of PlayStation titles getting movie and TV adaptations. Almost all of PlayStation's big names have adaptations in the works, including God of War, Horizon, and The Last of Us television shows, as well as Ghost of Tsushima, Gravity Rush and Uncharted movies.
