WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Under the Banner of Heaven episodes 1 & 2.
FX on Hulu’s Under the Banner of Heaven has just barely dipped its toes into the disturbing acts of the Lafferty family, with Dan, in particular, being even more shocking in real life. As Pyre interviews the Lafferty brothers about the murder, he uncovers the disturbing past and dangerous religious extremism of the real-life family, with Under the Banner of Heaven revealing how such developments led to the murders of 24-year-old Brenda and her infant daughter.
Dan Lafferty, portrayed by the MCU’s John Walker actor Wyatt Russell, is introduced in Under the Banner of Heaven episodes 1 and 2 as one of the most influential members of the Lafferty family. Passing over the eldest brother Ron (Sam Worthington), their father names Dan the new head of the family in his absence, with the latter character quickly showing his dangerous true colors. While the series depicts Dan’s worrying anti-tax stances and aggression with swinging a baseball bat at federal agents, the true story of Under the Banner of Heaven's character is even more disturbing.
