If any actor had a big year in 2021, it was Andrew Garfield. On top of making his triumphant return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, earning some long overdue redemption for the Amazing Spider-Man movies, he was also nominated for an Academy Award for his leading role in Tick, Tick… Boom!. Along with those projects, Garfield also co-starred in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye (which earned his co-star, Jessica Chastain, the Academy Award for Best Actress). Garfield's latest project is the Hulu true crime drama Under The Banner Of Heaven.
However, despite all of this momentum, the 38-year-old actor has decided to take a step back from the acting world, at least for a little while. Speaking with People, Garfield talked about his desire to step away from the stage and just take some time to be a normal person. «I'm actually really happy and excited to be very quiet and very still and take some time to just be,» he said.

Garfield spoke about what he sees as the assumed obligation to constantly be putting work out. «Like it's so tempting to live in that way of just always onto the next thing,» he said, adding «But actually, and I know it's a privilege that I get to even consider that, to actually take time.» The actor drew inspiration from the likes of Gymnast Simone Biles and Rapper Kendrick Lamar, both of whom took breaks from their careers (though Garfield notes correctly that Lamar has a new album coming out in May).
