Skydance New Media is already developing a Marvel video game and now the team is making a game, too. The developer, alongside Lucasfilm Games, announced that it is creating a “richly cinematic action-adventure game featuring an original story in the legendary galaxy.” And since it is still early on, it doesn’t currently have a release window or any listed platforms.
Skydance New Media is the team Amy Hennig formed, and she is most famous for directing the first three games on the PlayStation 3 during her long tenure at Naughty Dog. She has spoken about her love of in the past, which is obvious for anyone who has played. She reiterated that admiration with her own statement.
“I’ve often described how seeing in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly,” said Hennig. “I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”
Some may be a little apprehensive about hearing that Hennig is working on a game, not because of perceived quality, but because of what happened last time she was involved in the franchise. During her time at Visceral Games, Electronic Arts unceremoniously canceled her project, which was codenamed and sounded eerily like the vague pitch for this current Skydance game. Kotaku posted a damning report of the ‘s demise, which only gave people more of a look at the promising game they’d never get to play (the artwork has since been taken off since G/O Media removed all pictures from articles before 2019, but it can be found here).
While no one referenced that tragic cancelation, Lucasfilm Games Vice President Douglas Reilly did speak to Hennig and the team.
