Ubisoft has confirmed plans to lay off a further 45 employees as part of an ongoing exercise to “streamline operations”.
Last November the publisher announced that it was cutting 124 positions, based mainly in Canada.
Now it has confirmed that a further 45 staff will be laid off in its Global Publishing and Asia-Pacific divisions.
In a statement to GameSpot, the publisher said: “Over the past few months, every team within Ubisoft has been exploring ways to streamline our operations and enhance our collective efficiency so that we are better positioned for success in the long term.
“In this context, today we announced that we are further reorganizing our Global Publishing central and APAC structures to adapt them to the market evolution with a more efficient and agile approach.
“Those changes will impact 45 positions overall. These are not decisions taken lightly and we are providing comprehensive support for our impacted colleagues.
“We also want to share our utmost gratitude and respect for their many contributions to the company.”
The games industry continues to see widespread layoffs, with no sign of it slowing down any time soon.
It’s estimated that around 10,500 game industry employees were laid off last year. And three months into 2024, some 8,000 planned jobs cuts are already thought to have been confirmed.
Last week alone, it was reported thatSmilegate Barcelona was closed and all its employees let go, that Nintendo of America is cutting 120 contractor roles ahead of Switch 2’s launch, that Halo and CO support studio Certain Affinity had laid off 25 of its staff, and that Sega is selling Relic Entertainment and cutting 240 jobs across Europe.
