Tracking down your stolen possessions has become a little less painful thanks to the existence of AirTags, but it also helps that owners are one step ahead of criminals by employing some quick thinking. On this occasion, a family had their car stolen by a thief but had placed two trackers in the vehicle to help the authorities locate its position much faster.
The Setter family in Southeast D.C. were unloading their groceries when they were surprised by a red car pulling up to them. One of the thieves approached them with a firearm and demanded that they give up their car, which was a BMW SUV. The accomplice also managed to escape in the red car. Thankfully, Sean Setter remembered to place two AirTags in the now stolen car, with both trackers logged with his wife’s phone, allowing them to track the car’s location.
“We had two AirTags, one on the key ring and one hidden in the car. Luckily the AirTags were logged with my wife’s phone and she was able to show that to the police and they were able to pinpoint where the car was going and locate it.”
One of the AirTags had a keyring in the car, along with the husband’s iPhone also present in it. The thief threw out both items but did not locate the other tracker, which was used by the police to pinpoint its location. Surprisingly, finding the stolen car took around an hour, revealing how helpful these AirTags are. Unfortunately, according to AppleInsider, an insurance company stated that the car was totaled, absorbing tremendous damage in such a short time.
The vehicle also sustained a bullet hole during a shootout, but luckily for the Setter family, they received a replacement BMV SUV after a while. Police also made an arrest on the case just a day after the theft took place. One
