In a heartwarming tale, Twitter users came together to help a Zomato delivery partner buy a new bike. This has once again highlighted how people can come together to uplift the less privileged. The entire incident began when Twitter user Aditya Sharma posted on the microblogging site about Durga Meena, a Zomato delivery partner who lost his job as a teacher to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Sunday. Sharma noticed him delivering the food on a bicycle while the mercury rose till 42 degree celsius. Noticing Meena’s plight, he decided to find a way to help him.
He posted a series of tweets. The first one began with, “Today my order got delivered to me on time and to my surprise, this time the delivery boy was on a bicycle. Today my city temperature is around 42 °C in this scorching heat of Rajasthan he delivered my order on time”. Upon asking the Zomato delivery partner about his details, Sharma found out that Meena, 31 years old, had been a teacher for the last 12 years. However, as the Covid-19 pandemic struck, he lost his job and had to take up food delivery work to sustain himself and his family.
Sharma further tweeted, “he has done his bachelor's in BCOM and wants to pursue MCOM but due to his financial condition, he started to work with zomato. He knows everything about the internet. Durga told me he wants to have his own laptop with good wifi so he can teach students online because everything is turning towards online. He has taken loans and fulfilling loans from various banks. and tries to save money to purchase a bike”. The Twitter thread also revealed that he earns around Rs. 10,000 a month after delivering orders.
