M. Night Shyamalan fans can rejoice as his upcoming thriller movie, , has had its release date moved up. On Thursday, Warner Bros. scheduled releases for four new untitled films. Along with those, Trap also saw a change in its theatrical release date.
The two-time Oscar-nominated director’s upcoming thriller, Trap, is no longer coming out on August 9. As per Deadline, the Josh Hartnett thriller will get a wide release on August 2 instead. In this slightly earlier release spot, Trap will not compete directly with Lionsgate’s Borderlands adaptation on their opening weekends.
However, it will go head-on against Neon’s horror thriller Cuckoo, and Sony’s Harold and the Purple Crayon. But another film going up against it will be Deadpool & Wolverine, which will enter its second weekend on August 2 after a potentially big opening.
Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Trap is centered on a father (Hartnett) who takes his daughter to attend a music concert. But as he takes a bathroom break, he realizes that the entire event was set up to trap and capture a serial killer on the loose.
A twist in the tale – Trap’s first official trailer suggested that Hartnett’s character is seemingly hiding a dark secret. He is implied to be the serial killer himself, as he was seen holding someone hostage. However, it wasn’t entirely confirmed whether the well-mannered father is an antagonist or a protagonist.
The official synopsis of Trap reads:
“A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”
Besides Hartnett, the new Warner Bros. movie also stars Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. Shyamalan also serves as a co-producer on Trap alongside Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock. Meanwhile, Steven Schneider will serve as an executive producer of the film.
