As it does each month, Circana has released its latest monthly sales report, shining a light on how the US video game industry is performing from a business perspective. Sales for October 2023 are down compared to last year, and Circana said that's attributable in part to how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was released in October, while Modern Warfare III came out in November. Total sales slid by 5%, declining to $4.036 billion.
For games specifically, sales dropped by 4% to $3.562 billion, a figure that covers physical and digital full-game sales, as well as microtransactions and subscription revenue for console, mobile, PC, and VR. Some companies, like Nintendo, do not share digital sales numbers with Circana, however.

With all that out of the way, here are the top 20 best-selling games in the US for October 2023.
Spider-Man 2, from Insomniac Games, was October 2023's best-selling game. Its launch-month dollar sales surpassed those of 2018's Spider-Man by a double-digit percentage, Circana said. Spider-Man 2 is now the No. 4 best-selling game of 2023, trailing only Madden NFL 24, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Hogwarts Legacy.
