Simon Pegg reveals that Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 stunts terrified him and teases even crazier stunts in the in-production eighth film. Plot details for the upcoming installment are currently unknown, though it will see the return of Cruise's Ethan Hunt and Pegg's Benji Dunn, as well as Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust, Vanessa Kirby's Alanna Mitsopolis and Henry Czerny's Eugene Kittridge from the original Mission: Impossible movie. The new film will also mark the franchise introduction of stars Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Cary Elwes and Esai Morales as the film's primary villain.
Development on Mission: Impossible 7 was first announced in early 2019 with plans to shoot it and Mission: Impossible 8 back-to-back for 2021 and 2022 releases with Christopher McQuarrie returning to write and direct thanks to the success of his past three installments in the series. The consecutive shooting schedule was ultimately scrapped due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and both films' release dates pushed back multiple times in Cruise and Paramount's hopes of retaining a solely theatrical release for the action films. With filming on Mission: Impossible 7 having finally concluded in late 2021, those behind the film are offering new insight into what's to come from the highly anticipated sequel.
