TikTok is testing a dislike option for comments that's hidden from view, allowing folks to identify irrelevant or inappropriate remarks without stirring up conflict.
In a blog post, TikTok explains that only the person who registered a dislike will be able to see the reaction, while the commenter and other users remain none the wiser.
"This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comment section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement," Cormac Keenan, head of trust and safety at TikTok, wrote. "Alongside our work to proactively remove abusive and hateful content or behavior […] we also continue to explore new ways to help our community feel more in control over comments."
With that in mind, the social network is making more of an effort to remind users of its built-in safety tools, prompting creators who receive a high proportion of negative reactions to utilize TikTok's comment filtering and bulk block and delete options.
There's a chance these experimental features will never see the light of day for most users; TikTok expects to provide an update on plans for a full rollout "in the coming weeks."
