Even after a pair of legal incidents in Hawaii that stirred up controversy for actor Ezra Miller, Warner Bros. reportedly intends to maintain the star's presence in The Flash. Miller first appeared in the DC Extended Universe as «The Fastest Man Alive» in cameos for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad before playing a more prominent role in Justice League and eventually receiving their standalone film The Flash. The solo project will explore Barry Allen's background and presumably connect to the famous Flashpoint comics storyline, featuring several versions of Barry and potentially harboring significant implications for the entire DCEU.
While Miller has achieved acclaim for their humorous portrayal of the Flash, real-world scuffles with the law have arguably marred that success. In 2020, they were shrouded in controversy when a video arose depicting Miller choking a woman at a bar in Iceland, though the actor faced no charges. Recently, Miller was arrested following an altercation at a bar in Hawaii, then got slapped with a restraining order in a separate occurrence, before finally being arrested a second time—again in Hawaii, this time for second-degree assault.

The legal issues stirred up fans who called for their recasting as the Flash and Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and led to speculation that WB was looking to replace them.
