Warning: spoilers ahead for Avengers #56!
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Avengers, Jane Foster is being faced with a major temptation thanks to the work of the demon lord Mephisto in regards to the mantle of Thor. While the Son of Odin is typically Thor the God of Thunder, there was a time not too long ago when he wasn't, becoming unworthy to lift his hammer Mjolnir. It was during this time that Jane Foster became the Mighty Thor, a role which fit her incredibly well as she grew into a major hero and Avenger. While Jane's still a hero as the newest Valkyrie, the new issue teases that Jane may want her old job back as the wielder of Mjolnir.
In recent issues of Avengers, Mephisto has been making big moves against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Most recently, he commissioned the creation of the Multiversal Masters of Evil to destroy Avengers and conquer Earths across the multiverse, saving the primary Earth-616 for last. Meanwhile, several versions of Mephisto have formed the Council of Red, a vast multitude of demon lords who are preparing for a massive takeover of reality.

Now, the new Avengers #56 — from Jason Aaron and Javier Garrón — sees Jane Foster's Valkyrie being targeted by the Council, finding herself trapped in a fabricated reality of temptation where she is Thor's wife, staying behind to cook and clean while the God of Thunder saves the day. However, the arrival of a variant Jane Foster who never gave up Mjolnir helps Valkyrie battle the demons before they escape back to their realities.
