The new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer revealed much about Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) future within the MCU and the future of the Nine Realms. Taika Waititi, who previously directed Thor: Ragnarok, returns as director to follow up on how Thor has moved on since the events of Avengers: Endgame. Many questions remain unanswered regarding Thor, such as who is protecting the Nine Realms now that Odin (Anthony Hopkins) is gone. The trailer presents a possible solution to this problem.
The issue of Odin's absence began in Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Odin died and unleashed Hela (Cate Blanchett) from her mystical prison. After Thor battled Hela and released the fire demon Surtur to destroy Asgard with Hela inside, he and the citizens of Asgard set out for Earth in a spaceship provided by Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Sadly, they were immediately intercepted by Thanos (Josh Brolin). When Thanos snapped half the universe out of existence, the remaining Asgardians immigrated to Earth, where Thor remained in a state of guilt and depression. The Avengers eventually called Thor back to the team so they could travel through time and bring back those who had been snapped out of existence. After winning the battle against Thanos, Thor joined the Guardians of the Galaxy as they returned to space to search for Gamora.

Although Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) currently resides as King of New Asgard, Thor has been busy dealing with infinity stones and denizens of Thanos that he has not had the chance to address who is protecting the Nine Realms now that Odin and Heimdall (Idris Elba) are dead.
