The new cover for Total Film magazine unites Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman's superheroes from Thor: Love and Thunder. Taika Waititi is directing the upcoming sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017), which sees the return of Hemsworth's former Asgardian king after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019). In the new movie, Thor is going through a midlife crisis and seeking the purpose of his existence and heroism. But his pursuit of inner peace is interrupted by a galactic terminator, Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who is dead set on eliminating all gods.Thor: Love and Thunder will see Hemsworth's superhero team up with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi), and Jane Foster (Portman) — who has now become Mighty Thor — and the Guardians of the Galaxy as they unite to defeat Gorr.
Billed as a romance film as much as it is a superhero movie, Thor: Love and Thunder marks Portman's MCU comeback after Thor: The Dark World (2013). In the new movie, Portman's Jane, who is an astrophysicist, will cross paths with her ex-boyfriend Thor after eight years. Thor: Love and Thunder will explain Thor and Jane's breakup backstory while also describing the nature of their romance in flashbacks. Waititi has already stated that Jane's reappearance will be a big adjustment for Thor, and with the two heroes sharing similar costumes, powers, and weapons (Jane now wields a rebuilt Mjolnir), there will be some competition between them initially. Although it's unclear how Thor and Jane's relationship will develop through the movie, it's been established that they will make for a fierce team as they join forces.
