Smite 2’s third alpha weekend is coming next week, and the team is adding Hecate, Thanatos, and The Morrigan to the roster. They’re also diving into their Hecate rework before her debut.
The alpha weekend will begin on June 27th, andthose with access can help the team test out with feedback on gameplay, design, and of course, the new roster editions. The arrival of Hecate was announced at this year’s Smite World Championships, so it’s not a surprise, but there are some surprises on offer with her rework, detailed in their recent video.
In the pre-alpha testing, there was an earlier version, and the team asked some community testers to help them determine what was missing and how to get it right. Some of the feedback came back just requesting more, without necessarily being able to specify how you break that down. Since Hecate is the god of many things, that complicated matters in trying to deliver on too many things. What they settled on was transitions, doorways, and a sense of mysticism and sorcery, leaning into her as a triplicate goddess with clones. Those clones are part of her kit.
She also gets a new Ultimate that fits this mystical inspiration. With this ultimate, impact on the map is what they were going for. You can hit opponents and bring them closer into you or if your enemies are close and you want to get them out of the way you can send them far out of place. you might be able to displace all of your enemies from their positions and do damage. after you fire this attack whichever way you do it, you'll leave behind a Deployable that your allies can interact with and potentially teleport too.
If you’re looking to get some playtime in the next alpha weekend, you can see what they’ve been working on. Thanatos, god of death, is powerful but his abilities consume health instead of mana. The Morrigan, can create doubles of herself and even assume other gods’ identities and powers, offering flexibility and a need to approach her strategically.
