Nintendo Switch gamers are gearing up around the world for the launch of the eagerly awaited The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time in Breath of the Wild. It's been more than five years since that game came out, and over that half decade, much has changed.
It's now clear the Nintendo Switch is one of the most successful consoles of all time, having sold more than 125 million units, an achievement that was not at all obvious when the hybrid was first announced. Meanwhile, Breath of the Wild has become the best-selling entry in the Zelda series by some margin. All this means great expectations for its follow-up, while the many Zelda fans have been discussing what they'll be giving up in order to play Tears of the Kingdom.

Over on ResetEra, gamers have been talking about what particular games they'll be abandoning for Tears of the Kingdom, which comes out this Friday. The thread drew hundreds of comments as people seemed eager to share the titles they'll be just straight up tossing aside in order to start playing the new Zelda. The enthusiasm for this Nintendo launch is very palpable and just goes to show how much Zelda has gained in audience when it previously wasn't able to vie with the likes of Mario, Mario Kart, or Animal Crossing in the popularity stakes.
"Saying goodbye for a couple weeks to Redfall, and TLoU on PC, and waiting for patches for Jedi Survivor," wrote one member. "I think a Zelda release really brings out that hard hitting nostalgia, and it feels like a huge moment."
