The first version of The Witcher 3 NextGen HD Reworked Project is now available for download, masterfully overhauling a specific set of textures.
The first version of the modding project, which can be downloaded from Nexus Mods for free, overhauls all rock textures in the game, including those in the areas introduced by the expansions, such as Toussaint. This release also serves as a small preview of the full project, which will only release next year after the official modding tools are out, as they should allow for graphics improvement not currently possible, according to the project's creator Halk Hogan.
The Witcher 3 next-gen update was officially released last year, bringing new content to the excellent role-playing by CD Projekt Red as well as quality-of-life improvements, visual enhancements, ray tracing support, and more which improved the experience considerably over the original release, as highlighted by Alessio in his piece. Most of the launch issues were also fixed in the weeks after release with a few patches.
With everything turned on, the game looks absolutely fantastic. Granted, it had a great base to begin with, but the textures are clearly higher quality here (partly thanks to the integrated mods), and the draw distance is massively improved, just like the accuracy and sharpness of reflections and shadows. The star of the show is the ray traced global illumination, though, which elevates the game's lighting to new heights.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
