Episode 2 of The Orville: New Horizons, titled «Shadow Realms,» marked a distinctive shift for the series when it incorporated horror elements and the introduction of demons. The crew of the Orville, after negotiating with the Krill to explore an unknown region of space, ignore the warnings of dangerous creatures and choose to investigate the Kalarr Expanse anyway. When Admiral Paul Christie becomes infected by alien bacteria, audiences get to see one of The Orville's most shocking scenes, in which the character begins mutating into a horrifying entity that ends up infecting additional crew members, leading to several other transformations.
