Chapter eight of The Last of Us Part 1 sees Ellie on her own after the harrowing events at the University of Eastern Colorado, which saw Joel seriously wounded after being ambushed by Hunters. The chapter opens in the winter with Ellie hunting deer through the woods, quietly stalking her prey before landing a shot and tracking it to an old, desolate mining camp. It's here that she comes across some fellow survivors and things take a turn for the worse. This fairly short chapter in The Last of Us Part 1 serves to highlight Ellie's independence and growth; initially cautious yet trusting, Lakeside Resort goes to show just how far Ellie has journeyed and how removed she is from that young, naive self that players first met.
Throughout The Last of Us Part 1, players can find a bunch of optional conversations to engage with. Ranging in tone and varying in character, these snippets of dialogue open up more narrative exploration of the characters and themes that encompass the game, giving players further insight into the world around them.
