The Killzone franchise has not received a new game since 2013’s Killzone Shadow Fall, and unfortunately, it seems like this will not be changing anytime soon. A recent Guerrilla Games leak revealed that the developer’s next game will be a shooter with an eSports focus, but it will not be set in the Killzone universe. Further, the leak claims that Killzone is dead, with Guerrilla Games prioritizing this new IP and the Horizon franchise.
While it is great that Horizon is such a success and that Guerrilla is trying something new in the FPS genre, it is a shame that Killzone has completely died. Every entry in the series was good or great, and many gamers have fond memories of Killzone multiplayer. With an interesting story featuring sympathetic villains in the form of the Helghast, there are plenty of upsides to Killzone. As such, whether through a sequel or remasters, Killzone deserves to live on.
Guerrilla Games Could Lean on Its Killzone Roots For a Horizon Spin-Off
With Killzone Shadow Fall’s multiplayer overrun by hackers and basically unplayable, fans of the series desperately need a new online mode within the Killzone universe. Further, the ending of Shadow Fall’s campaign set up an interesting sequel, so it is a shame that it will likely never be expanded upon. While the series never sold as well as it reviewed, nostalgia could help a new entry do well out the gate, with major innovations also bringing Killzone to a larger audience.
The DualSense controller is one of the biggest reasons that PlayStation shooters like Resistance and Killzone deserve to be revived. Games like Astro’s Playroom have demonstrated just how great the controller can be at making players feel different things, while Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
