You know the phrase, “This is why we can’t have anything nice?” Well, that’s the feeling many game developers have felt over the last several years because hackers have come in and tried to ruin things for them in one form or another. You might recall when Rockstar Games was hacked, and alpha-based videos of their upcoming title hit the internet, causing all sorts of backlash when it did. Then, late last year, Insomniac Games was the latest victim of a hack, where a whole bunch of data was revealed about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and future games they might be producing.
But focusing on their recently released title, some of these hackers decided it “wasn’t enough” that the game was “just out on PS5.” Insomniac Games did release the previous two entries featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales on PC, both of which did well upon arrival. So, these hackers tried to make an “unofficial PC version” of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and started teasing that they would release it.
If not obvious, this is an incredibly illegal act and not something that should be tried by you or anyone else! Seriously, don’t be jerks and try to ruin things for everyone.
But, should you be the kind of person who needs motivation to NOT do anything bad, then you need only look at this tweet highlighting how said unofficial version of the game won’t be coming out…because Insomniac Games found out about them and scared them into hiding:
Remember when they said Spider-Man 2 was gonna be playable on PC
They're quitting left & right & Insomniac has tracked them down & they're scared
