It is a survival horror game developed by a studio headed up by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield, which is also set within the Player Unknown's Battlegrounds universe. An odd connection and premise to be sure, as the original PUBG is a battle royale game that is not known for building lore or a narrative, but this game is one of many games currently in development that are under the IP's umbrella.
Even if The Callisto Protocol and its connection to PUBG seem odd, many fans were impressed at the first cinematic trailer that was shown. Some noted that it carried the same vibes that the critically acclaimed Dead Space franchise had during its peak. While development on the game has been silent for the most part, Schofield has noted that it has been going rather well and has shared his excitement with fans over how it's coming together.

The developer had shared this enthusiasm over social media with a piece of concept art for The Callisto Protocol that looks suitably spooky. The picture posted on Twitter has a decaying room filled with fog and mist, complete with only a few sources of light. However, what can be seen is a rotten and zombielike enemy, who has their entire face removed and hand stuck in between a railing.
Schofield noted that he found this piece while rummaging through the concept art files that were drafted by the game's art team. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the team for bringing the game's setting to life, as well as excitement about the game's progress.
