Warning: Major Stranger Things season 4 spoilers below
Stranger Things star David Harbour perfectly captures former Hawkins police chief Jim Hopper's season 4 story in a recent social media post. After a three-year hiatus, the science-fiction horror series has returned to Netflix to continue the tale of a core group of teenage friends in a small, 1980s town as they battle monsters from a parallel dimension. Stranger Things season 4 introduces the heroes to a new threat in the form of Vecna, a humanoid creature with the power of telekinesis who seemingly feeds off the guilt of people with unresolved trauma. Unfortunately, Hopper cannot assist his friends on their mission to stop Vecna, as he is nowhere near Hawkins.
At the end of season 3, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) closed the gate to the Upside Down dimension with a fiery explosion, seemingly killing Hopper in the process. However, it is later revealed that the police chief survived and was being held prisoner in the Soviet Union. Season 4 finds Hopper contacting Joyce in an elaborate plot to escape, but the attempt backfires as he is betrayed by his smuggler contact, Yuri Imaylov (Nikola Đuričko).

In a recent post to Instagram, Harbour succinctly (and hilariously) captures Hopper's Stranger Things season 4 story. With an image from the new season showing Hopper's bedraggled visage after suffering for months in the harsh conditions of the Soviet prison, Harbour writes, "daydreaming of peanut butter."
