Stranger Things season 4 Vecna actor Jamie Campbell Bower explains the similarities between his character and Freddy Krueger. After months of anticipation, Stranger Things season 4 finally landed on Netflix last week, treating viewers to a return to Hawkins, Indiana, and more 1980s sci-fi horror from creators the Duffer Brothers. The latest season boasts longer episode runtimes than previous seasons and a terrifying new villain with Vecna.
Named after the iconic Dungeons & Dragons character of the same name, Vecna proves to be a major threat to the residents of Hawkins and the core group of youngsters. The character was first unveiled in the trailer for Stranger Things season 4, hauntingly declaring that "You have lost," and hinting at a major confrontation brewing between the evil forces of the Upside Down and the regular world. In addition to Bower, Stranger Things season 4 sees the return of a number of series regulars, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Caleb McLaughlin, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder, among others.

In a new interview with EW, Bower addresses the similarities between his sinister villain and A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. The actor explains that, while he did take inspiration from Krueger, he wanted Vecna to be less chaotic and more driven by a built-up rage instead. Bower also reveals that, in addition to Krueger, he also drew from Hellraiser for his performance as Vecna. Check out Bower's full comment below:
