While Georgie and Sheldon have never gotten on too well, their relationship is likely to get worse in Young Sheldon season 6 if The Big Bang Theory canon is anything to go by. Much like The Conners can’t reference Roseanne without upsetting and delighting viewers in equal measure, Young Sheldon creates plot holes in its struggles with the show’s relationship to its sitcom franchise predecessor. On the one hand, the spinoff wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for the outsized popularity of The Big Bang Theory.
On the other hand, Young Sheldon has strived since the show’s inception to have a different tone, style, and even sense of humor from The Big Bang Theory. Where The Big Bang Theory was a traditional multi-camera sitcom complete with a laugh track, Young Sheldon is a coming-of-age single-camera comedy more akin to The Wonder Years than the original series. Young Sheldon’s period setting helps make the distinction even clearer, resulting in a show that acts as an extension of The Big Bang Theory’s universe while still feeling entirely different.

However, Georgie’s Big Bang Theory backstory is another case ofYoung Sheldon needing to keep its connection to the earlier series alive.
