has been one of the most critically-acclaimed shows in the Star Wars franchise and its first season ended by hinting that the story is far from over. Now, as #RenewTheAcolyte trends on social media, series creator Leslye Headland has given an update on what she’s heard about The Acolyte Season 2.
In a July 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Headland revealed that she heard nothing about the sophomore season of The Acolyte from Lucasfilm and Disney Plus. This is after she discussed the prospects of taking the story to the second season and beyond with Entertainment Weekly earlier in June.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly in July if she had heard anything about The Acolyte Season 2, Headland displayed a big zero with her hands while saying the word “Nothing.”
According to Headland, one of the good things to come out of Lucasfilm’s apparent silence is that it has given her a much-needed break from The Acolyte. However, she admitted that she still thought about stories that the show could explore in the future. “My brain is still doing it,” she explained. “It’s almost like if you’re running, you can’t just stop, can’t shut off.”
Headland hinted that the dynamic between the Stranger/Qimir and Vernestra Rwoh would be an important part of the narrative if Season 2 is greenlit. The show will also focus on Yoda and Darth Plagueis, two major Star Wars characters who made cameo appearances in the Season 1 finale.
In June, Headland told Entertainment Weekly that while she hadn’t written any outlines or scripts, she knew “what needs to happen” and “what the character development needs to be in order to hit the plot points and the character points for a second, third, or fourth season.”
In July 2024, the Acolyte fans took to social media and demanded a second season for the series with #RenewTheAcolyte.
